We Are AVID!
Pinedale is the first AVID elementary school in Clovis Unified. AVID stands for; Advancement Via Individual Determination. “AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.”
AVID strategies include; Writing to learn, Inquiry skills, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading to learn (WICOR). Our students will focus on these strategies to help them become college and career-ready.
Students will be expected to:
- Keep an organized binder
- Use planners effectively
- Use AVID notetaking strategies
- Collaborate respectfully in groups
Our History
The Pinedale Elementary School was constructed in 1952 at a cost of $496,856, on the site of the former Pinedale School built in 1924. The original school building was considered structurally unsafe and purchased by the Catholic Church in Pinedale and moved to the church grounds. The new campus, designed by Lewis C. Nelson & Sons of Selma consisted of 14 classrooms, a woodworking shop, a home economics room, two kindergarten rooms, and administrative offi ces. The Pinedale School District was formed in 1924 and united with the Clovis Union High School on July 26, 1935. In 1959, they voted to become part of the Clovis Unifi ed School District, with a total attendance of 744 students.

In 2014, renovations and new construction opened the new MPR, kitchen, kindergarten buildings, and administrative offices.
